Miami, FL – December 2018
HoneyLab is a new, multi-faceted cultural platform for global creative placemaking, a think tank and ideas launch pad conceived by internationally-renowned curator Ximena Caminos. Assembling a laboratory of leading minds in the fields of culture, wellness, and environmentalism to create a new approach to experiences that raise awareness, Caminos’ new platform explores cross-pollination opportunities between art, urbanism, preservation, and experiential design.
A cultural incubator encouraging civic participation and creative living, HoneyLab seeks to inspire by creating platforms for collaboration through thoughtfully curated experiences, re-imagining culture.
A series of site-specific installations will be revealed during Art Basel Miami Beach 2018 and the following season, including a monumental site-sensitive 4,000 sqft landmark by Chinese artist Michael Lin. Furthermore, Ximena Caminos co-curated the Anónimo art/design fair—that includes the unveiling of a larger-than-life textile sculpture by Manuel Ameztoy—and ensuing live auction at the Faena Forum.
As part of an ongoing effort to encourage engagement within the sustainability community, Caminos has also developed The BlueLab Preservation Society, a non-profit organization committed to environmental stewardship offering comprehensive programming and activations—from beach cleanups to seminars—with experts in the matter.
“In Florida, we have noticed first-hand the impact that climate change has had on the region,” says Caminos. “Sustainability is something we take very seriously, and we aim to provide a platform that both supports environmental education and implements action.”
Twenty-five percent of proceeds from HoneyLab’s operations will be donated to support the non-profit’s work in Florida, further activating participation across various facets of Miami’s cultural community and beyond. One of the first initiatives will target Lake Okeechobee, the state’s largest freshwater lake, which has been overrun by a toxic mat of cyanobacteria. In recent years, the water has become so polluted with toxic algae that it has paralyzed marine life and been deemed unsafe for humans.
Additional initiatives of note include collaborations to be announced in the coming months.
About the Art Takeover:
A NEW KIND OF TALENT LAUNCHPAD
HoneyLab joined forces with Sony Music to create a stage for extraordinary talents to debut during Art Basel Miami Beach 2018.
The first in a series of concerts will be an exclusive performance by 2-time Latin Grammy winner Rosalía, who will present her latest album, ‘El Mal Querer’ for a select group of 400 art-world insiders.
Following the performance, the collaboration continues at the Faena Forum where guest will preview the Anónimo art and design exhibition and participate in a live charity auction.
The soirée will conclude with an after-party hosted in partnership with Surface Magazine and M. N. Roy club at the Saxony Bar of the Faena Hotel.
